From paper to pack

Hand-Drawn Heroes started as three drawings and one sentence: "Keep the hand-drawn feel. Keep the actual characters as close to the original as possible." Three photos went in. Three cards came out, plus a card back and a booster pack in the same style.

How it works

  1. Say what you want

"Trading cards of my daughter's dragons" is enough to start. Add photos of drawings, pets or people.

  2. See the cards appear

The assistant makes each card, with names and stats, and draws pictures where you need them. Ask for changes the way you'd ask a person.

  3. Choose the pack

A sealed foil pack, a printed box or a clear case. Add holographic fronts if you like.

  4. Open the real thing

The cards are printed, cut, packed and shipped to your door.

Ideas to start from

Type it the way you'd say it. Any of these works as a first message:

  • "Turn my son's 12 monster drawings into trading cards. Keep the drawings exactly as they are and give each one an attack."
  • "Trading cards of our family pets, with silly stats like nap power and snack speed."
  • "A card for every kid in my daughter's class, for an end-of-year party. I'll upload their drawings."
  • "Trading cards of our family, with grandma as the rarest card. Pack them in foil booster packs."

Packed like the real thing

Sealed foil packs

18 cards in a crimped foil pack printed with your art. Tearing it open is half the fun.

Holographic fronts

A rainbow shine across the front of every card in the deck.

The printed Big Sur Labs tuck box, black with line art of the coast and the logo

A box of their own

A printed tuck box sized to the deck, designed in the same editor as the cards.

The cards are the standard 2.5 × 3.5 inch trading card size, so they fit the sleeves and binders kids already have. Choose the card stock or see all the packaging.

Questions

Can I make trading cards from my child's drawings?

Yes. Take a photo of each drawing with your phone and upload it. The assistant makes a card for each character, keeping the drawing as it is, and adds a name, stats and a card back in the same style.

Do I need design skills or software?

No. You describe the cards in your own words and the assistant lays them out. If you want to change something, you can do it yourself in the editor, or just ask.

How many cards do I need?

As few as 18. A sealed foil pack holds 18 cards, and a deck in a box can be bigger. If you have fewer characters than that, you can print more than one copy of a card.

How are the cards packaged?

In a sealed foil booster pack of 18 cards with your art on it, a custom printed tuck box, a clear plastic case, or shrink-wrap.

Can I make holographic cards?

Yes. A holographic front is an option when you order: the front of every card in the deck gets a rainbow shine.

Will they fit in normal card sleeves and binders?

Yes. They're the standard 2.5 × 3.5 inch trading card size, the same as Pokémon and sports cards.
